This is a long-overdue post to notify you all that I am these days mostly to be found on tumblr, contributing in a modest fashion to the amount of fluffy animals, cityscapes, and fannish squee on these great Interwebz.
What's worse: a pit of snakes or a pit of spiders?

Maevele needs some help with the rent to keep her abusive husband away.

I guess since this is the first unlocked post, i should include some background. My husband's temper finally went critical and physical and he's out of the house. he says he'll keep paying rent but he also is using that as an excuse for why he should stay here and can't get his own place, and I can't be dependent on him or I might take him back just because not having rent money might be scarier than he is. So I'm asking for donations, even from strangers on the internet, because I would rather be dependent on strangers than him right now. Feel free to link or whatever. Anything will help keep him out of my house. Thank you.

Does anyone else freak out when characters are sneaking around where they don't belong? That more than anything gives me the tense, anticipatory feeling of imminent horror. Hauntings, gruesome corpses, mysterious pursuit through dark and unfamiliar alleyways: whatever. Start poking around in other people's bedroom drawers, though, and suddenly THE SKY IS FALLING, OH NO, YOU'RE GOING TO GET CAUGHT AAAAAAHHHHHH.

I made these today! If anyone had told me before today that you could boil eggs and tea and soy sauce together and have it smell like the most alluring aphrodisiac known to humankind, I... well, I wouldn't have believed them. I do now! In fact I'm considering bathing in it, it smells that good. And the eggs are pretty tasty too.

Hey California, maybe you should worry less about cussing and more about homophobic elder abuse.

A quick summary: Clay and Harold had been living together for 20 years, and had filed various legal documents regarding power of attorney, medical directives, etc. -- all the legal workarounds that you need when you can't or don't want to get married. County officials and health care workers summarily ignored all of that and imprisoned them in separate nursing homes after Harold fell down the stairs and had to go to the hospital, and then terminated the lease on their home and sold off all their belongings. Harold died three months later without having been reunited with Clay.

I just don't know what to say. I don't understand how or why anyone could be so outrageously cruel. Is it that having power over other people just automatically awakens the urge to abuse it? Is homophobia that strong, that compelling to some people?

Clay has now been released, and bringing a lawsuit against the county, the auction company, and the nursing home. The article I linked to suggests e-mailing the local paper (letters@pressdemocrat.com) asking them to pick up the story (they haven't yet), and there's also a petition for the same... will it help? I don't know; I don't have much faith in online petitions. I hope... can't really say I hope it turns out okay, or it all works out; how do you make something like this "okay"? I hope he wins the lawsuit, I hope that helps to prevent more cases like this.

So, these Coffee-Toffee Bars. First time I've ever tried a recipe and concluded that it would be better without the chocolate chips. Maybe my baking powder is dead? Anyway, the cookie base did not rise up to gently enfold the chocolate chips in their tender embrace as promised by the recipe, leaving me with a bunch of chocolate chips sitting loosely on top, falling off in all directions, and imo not really adding much to the taste. Plus, they're crunchy, crumbly (not a complaint, btw), and not in the least sticky... all in all, rather un-toffee-like.

Ergo, a remix: Coffee Butter CookiesCollapse )
